Yeah, so dubstep is supposed to be minimal... The emphasis is supposed to be on the basslines, with the percussion being heavy enough to stand out, but not completely stand alone...
The idea is to have a more spacious rhythm pattern, which will make the mind subconsciously fill in the blanks..
ME? I don't necessarily go by these "rules" though... I prefer to fill my tracks in with plenty of sound, and make them very rich, and hearty.. As long as the dubstep base is there, you can get away with a lot, and still have it be considered dubstep...
