ABOUT SEATTLE DRUM AND BASS
Drum and bass has been pumping through club speakers in Seattle for well over 12 years. It's an easy city to be proud of and has earned an excellent reputation world round. It has spawned 100's of excellent dj's and producers and has also been a solid base that has grown the sound to cities and states all around. It's been home to some high profile producers and frequented by the who's who of drum and bass in the last decade. Seattle was the home of the only all drum and bass record store on the westcoast and also the longest running Drum and Bass weekly in the US.
Drum and bass started out in Seattle as teh bastard child of electronic music. Once freed from the house parties and brought into the raves it was stuffed into the stank little side rooms with crap sound. There was a small handful of dedicated junglists who just never quit. Eventually the sound made it into various nightclubs and its acceptance grew. One group that was around when drum and bass was just forming in Seattle and are still making waves today is the 360BPM cru. [In my deliberate attempt to not use individuals names for the acheivments of the city on the whole, this group could not go with out mentioning] It was the guys of 360BPM that completely blew the roof off of the drum and bass scene. That cru along with promoter Marcus L. started one of the most prominent drum and bass weeklies in the country, Tuesdays at The Baltic room. Together they brought talent from all around the world EVERY week and was a must hit city for touring artists from 99-03. The Tuesday night, which is still run by a member of 360BPM will celebrate it's 10th anniversary in November of 08.
There has been and will continue to be many dedicated drum and bass promoters, dj's and fans in Seattle. Like anything it has its highs and lows. The "heyday" of Seattle drum and bass 6 nights a week has worn down to a wide but tight group of drum and bass enthusiasts with a few solid nights around the city. Seattle has produced a number of record makers with large releases for major labels. Don't overlook this city when it comes to unheard producers as well, but if you listen to drum and bass, you might have heard.... er...um... everybody playing a tune called "Ladies Night". Ya, thats from the brains of Demo and Cease, both long time contributers to Seattle drum and bass. kthanxbye.
Seattle drum and bass .com came into the picture in late 04 and since has been the spot to find out what is going on in the world of seattle drum and bass. It's been a meeting spot for many, a promotional tool for any and all local promoters, the place to post your mix and have it available to the different nights around the city and a place to kill your time at work. Every summer there have been a series of SDNBBQ's bringing together all teh dj's and board members for a day of fun and debauchery. The board has served as a place to talk about music or absolutely nothing relevant at all. It's not a spot for hardcore haters or topics that demonstrates the depths of mans ignorance but it is a place to come and connect, find out what is happening and score some new mixes and thats the way we want to keep it. Thanks for stoping by and reading a small fraction about Seattle drum and bass
